SampleShot is built so your audio and your library stay yours. This policy covers the SampleShot iOS app, SampleShot Studio for Mac, and this website.

SampleShot is published by Rekursive Labs LLC, a Texas limited liability company, which is the data controller for the limited personal data described below. You can reach us through the contact form.

What we collect

Almost nothing. SampleShot has no accounts, no analytics, and no tracking. We never see your recordings, your samples, or anything about how you use the app. There are two exceptions: the optional AI naming feature described below, which sends text-only sample metadata through SampleShot's naming service, and the launch waitlist on this website.

The launch waitlist

If you join the waitlist, we store the name you enter (optional), your email address, and which platform you're interested in. That's the whole record.

What it's used for: one email when SampleShot launches, and possibly one more if you're invited to the TestFlight beta. Nothing else.
Who else sees it: nobody. We don't sell it, share it, or hand it to advertisers, and it isn't loaded into any analytics or marketing platform.
Where it's stored: a private database hosted by our website provider, readable only by SampleShot.
Removing it: ask via the contact form and we'll delete your entry — no account or verification needed. Every launch email also carries an unsubscribe link.
Retention: we delete the waitlist entirely once the launch emails have gone out and the list has served its purpose.

Joining the waitlist is not a purchase and does not require a payment method. Founding pricing is redeemed through the App Store after launch.

Where your data lives

Recordings and chops are stored on your device (and on your Mac, in its local library).
Sample library metadata (names, categories, tags) is stored in a local database on your Mac. Your audio files are never moved, renamed, or modified.
Device sync, if you enable it, goes through your own iCloud Drive. It is governed by your Apple account and never touches any third-party server.

AI naming (optional, Mac)

AI naming, included with SampleShot Pro, sends text-only metadata — file names, folder paths, and detected BPM/key — to Anthropic's Claude API to generate clean names and categories. Your audio is never uploaded, and this only happens when you run the organize pipeline.

How requests are authenticated: your App Store purchase receipt (a signed token from Apple) proves an active subscription. There are no accounts and no personal information involved.
What our server does: SampleShot's naming service verifies the receipt, counts the request against your monthly allowance, and forwards the text metadata to Anthropic. The metadata is not stored on our server; only an anonymous usage counter is kept.
Anthropic's handling is governed by Anthropic's commercial terms, under which API inputs are not used to train models.
Bring your own key: if you add your own Anthropic API key in Settings, requests go directly from your Mac to Anthropic and never touch SampleShot's server. The key is stored in your Mac's Keychain.

Song identification (optional, iOS)

If you use the song-identification feature with your own AudD API key, a short audio fingerprint of the recording you choose is sent to AudD to identify it. This only happens when you explicitly tap identify.

Purchases

Subscriptions are processed by Apple through the App Store. We never see your payment details.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this address.
